Meet the Orthodontist
Dr. Jason K. Tam was born and raised in Toronto and is a current Markham resident. He is a Greater Toronto Invisalign Premier Provider, recognizing the top 5% of Invisalign practitioners in North America based upon experience. As of July 2009, he is one of only 5 orthodontists in the GTA with the Invisalign Teen Provider designation and lectures to the dental hygiene students and hygienists at George Brown College.
Dr. Tam is very familiar with the U of T system, having attended high school at the University of Toronto Schools (UTS), completing his Bachelor of Science with High Distinction, and followed by the Doctor of Dental Surgery Program with Honours.
During his dental training, Dr. Tam was extremely active on campus as a residence don for four years. He received several honours as the dental school president and valedictorian. He was also awarded the Canadian Dental Association President's Award, was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honour Society, received the Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity Award, as well as the J.G. Bourassa Cup as the most outstanding member of the graduating class.
Following thirteen years in the U of T system, Dr. Tam decided to venture outside of Canada as a general dentist at the New York Hospital Medical Centre of Queens, part of Cornell's Weill Medical College. There he provided care to many patients with special needs and worked closely with oral surgeons on several operating room cases. He also spent one month providing dental care to Canada's native people in small communities in Nunavut.
After a year in New York, Dr. Tam moved to Boston to attend the highly renowned orthodontic residency program at Boston University. He feels extremely fortunate to have studied at what is widely considered one of the premier orthodontic programs by the orthodontic community, and had the privilege of training under the tutelage of one of the top orthodontic educators of our time, Dr. Anthony Gianelly. During his residency, Dr. Tam worked extensively with and was certified in Invisalign®, the placement and use of orthodontic mini-implants, and extremely complicated malocclusions, including patients who require orthognathic surgery in conjunction with orthodontics. He completed his American Boards and is fully eligible to practice orthodontics in the United States.
Realizing what was truly important to him, Dr. Tam decided to return to the GTA for his family and friends. After an extremely rigorous two-day examination, he was admitted as a Fellow in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, certifying him as an orthodontic specialist for children and adults.
Dr. Tam is happily married to his wife, Amelia. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling and has been to Asia, Europe, and all over the United States and Canada for both personal pleasure and continuing orthodontic education. He can often be found at the gym working out or playing basketball, and enjoys eating out at restaurants all over the Greater Toronto Area. He is extremely happy to have established such a vibrant, landmark office in the York Region and looks forward to helping everyone find the secret behind Markham's best smiles!
