First Visit

We are always excited to meet you during your first visit to MCO Markham and Stouffville Orthodontics. This complimentary, initial 60 minute appointment will consist of digital x-rays, digital photos, and a comprehensive examination. While this information is required for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, few, if any other offices in the area offer such a complete evaluation.
Dr. Tam will then address the following questions that cover the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.
- Is there a dental or health condition that orthodontics can address?
- Is treatment needed now, or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors have occurred?
- What treatment procedures and options will be used to correct the problem?
- Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
- How long will treatment take?
Our treatment coordinator will then present you with a printed financial plan and discuss the sequence of appointments. Should you wish to begin treatment at this time, a preparation fee is accepted for diagnostic study models, also known as impressions or moulds of the teeth or an Invisalign scan. Sometimes, it is also necessary to create spaces between the back teeth to comfortably fit bands or appliances. We have conveniently allocated fifteen minutes for these procedures to help you avoid the hassle of multiple visits to the office. Otherwise, our treatment coordinator will schedule a time to speak with you regarding your treatment decision at your convenience.
Please note:
Prior to your appointment we ask that you determine the details of your orthodontic insurance coverage because it's likely that we can reduce your out of pocket cost for treatment by taking advantage of your benefits and we will also be able to furnish you with a predetermination form. This can be done by looking at your policy manual or calling your insurance company.
Also, if you have had any previous orthodontic imaging or x-rays, such as the ones below within the last year, please arrange to have these materials present during your first visit. If they were digital x-rays, please have them emailed to us. Thank you!
