With the holiday season long gone, our Markham braces and Invisalign patients all tell us that they can't wait for March Break! Some are lucky enough to go away to places like Florida, the Dominican, Cuba, and Mexico, while others will be at home in Markham, looking for things to do.

Q: How much does Invisalign cost?

Q: Does Invisalign really work?

Q: Does insurance cover Invisalign?

A: Each patient should review their coverage since medical benefits differ significantly from policy to policy. If a patient has orthodontic coverage however, Invisalign should be covered to the same extent as traditional braces. Remember that Invisalign is still orthodontic treatment.

Q: What are aligners made of?

A: Aligners are made of clear, strong medical grade plastic that is virtually invisible when worn.

Q: What do aligners look like?

A: Aligners are nearly invisible and look similar to clear tooth-whitening trays, but are custom made for a better fit to move teeth. Some orthodontists and dentists have referred to them as “contact lenses for teeth.”

Q: How does Invisalign effectively move teeth?

A: Invisalign aligners, much like brackets and archwires, move teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force on the teeth. The difference? Invisalign not only controls forces, but also controls the timing of the force application. This results in an efficient force delivery system.

Your Unionville Orthodontics Team often fields questions from parents, whose kids are currently in treatment, about their own teeth. They have seen the amazing results in their children, but are unsure about whether they can successfully undergo treatment. Common questions are about age and types of appliances.

Age is not the primary concern with tooth movement. What is essential is healthy gums and bones. With these two factors in place, adult orthodontics is generally not an issue. Our office provides aesthetic options such as Invisalign, clear ceramic braces, and iBraces / Incognito (inside braces) for those wishing to have a less conspicuous treatment. We're well into the New Year at Markham Centre Orthodontics and have been seeing a lot of interest in Invisalign clear braces to straighten teeth and improve smiles.

Below is an approximate timeline for your appointments:

1. Comprehensive complimentary consultation with records- 1 hour

2. PVS impressions- 20-30 min (may be combined with consult visit)

3. Initial Invisalign Insertion and Instructions- 20-30 min

4. Placement of attachments and instructions on aligner insertion and removal- 45min to 1 hr

5. Checking current aligner and dispensing subsequent aligners- 15min. Add approximately 15min if IPR is required

6. Attachment removal, and final/progress records, and PVS imp for refinement/mid course correction or retainer impressions if required- 45min to 1hr

7. Retention visits- 10-15min
